in this Jimi track - Message From Nine To The Universe - there is a female vocalist who joins in toward the end of the track, and while it's likely she is just an unknown backup singer, i post the track for anyone who cares to listen and help identify who this singer is; alternatively, you can just download and listen to this fantastic Jimi track, which i culled from his Mixdown Master Tapes boot

some sources credit the female vocals on that track to Devon Wilson, Hendrix's girlfriend

Hi Arb, this had me puzzled, as I didn't recall any backing female vocalist on this track. Near the end Jimi is singing 'Some people don't understand, help me fellas' or something similar. So I looked at a couple of sites and found a list of musicians who took part in these sessions.

Devon Wison is mentioned as backing vocalist on '9 to the universe', but with the word 'wiped' beside her name.

My CD is 10 tracks, issued by Reclamation RECD1012, perhaps it has a different lineage to yours.

On the subject of JH outtakes etc do you have Voodoo Blues #3 ? The most mindblowing 'If 6 was 9' out there.

But top of the tree for me is the Royal Albert Hall February 69 show.

VB#3 is an excellent collection of outtakes and demos '69 - '70. Some of them appear on other collections (jams with Larry Young, Steven Stills, McLaughlin, Chris Woods). Everything I have came from the same pLLace, including 9 to the Universe, which has 10 tracks, 5 more than the earlier release. Search there and you'll find them.

Where should I look to find the Mixdown you mention ?

snoori, thanks for hipping me to Voodoo Blues #3 ... listening now and the sound quality is outstanding (the music of course is great, it's Jimi!)

Edit: the last 2 tracks are by themselves worth the download, beautiful Jimi ... it is certainly a boon to we fans that Jimi spent so much time with his guitar in the studio, such a wealth of 'unreleased' recordings to keep the fans satiated

when the rat bastard Alan Douglas issued the LP 'Nine To The Universe', along with numerous edits/changes to the original jams, he 'wiped' the backing vocals of Devon Wilson on 'Message', but the track i linked is from the Mixdown Master Tapes boot ... what 10 track CD are you referring to? ... the Mixdown boot that i have is a 4 disk, 39 tracks total, and is essential to the collection of any lover of Jimi ... i can fileshare the .mp3s @ 320kbps if you care for a copy (alas, the original flacs are half the world away from my present city of residence), let me know
